According to new research from Auto Trader, the UK’s no 1 motoring website and magazine, 36-40 year olds were the most likely to have an accident, followed by those ages 31-35, dispelling the myth that young drivers are the worst on the roads.
However, anybody born in 1981 should be especially careful when on the road as the data shows that they have the most claims. Other unlucky years include 1974, 1978, 1967 and 1975.
Drivers born between January 20th and February 18th (Aquarius) were most likely to have an accident, according to the research, followed by Pisceans (born between February 19th and March 20th). Scorpios (October 24th – November 21st) and Sagittarians (November 22nd – December 21st) were the star signs least prone to accidents, with the lowest number of claims.
The new data also shows that 15% of all Auto Trader Insurance claims are for Ford vehicles, but the unluckiest make and model is the Vauxhall Corsa, which accounts for 5% of all car insurance claims.
The data, compiled of over 4,600 claims collected over the last 12 months, shows that Friday seems to the day to avoid on the road for motorists, as that is the day that 16% of all accidents take place one. Sunday, predictably is the safest day to drive.
Not surprisingly, women are officially safer drivers than men. Females are safer drivers than male motorists, with men making nearly 20% more claims than women.
Tom White, Head of Financial Services at Auto Trader, comments: “It is always stressful when you are involved in an accident. However, if you have a helpful insurance company that can sort out your claim, it can make all the difference.
“Remember, it is worth paying a little more on your insurance policy to make sure you have all the benefits you might need in the event of an accident. Check your policy carefully to see what the level of cover is and what are included in the policy and what are classed as ‘extras’.
“We have recently launched an insurance comparison tool on AutoTrader.co.uk, which searches hundreds of prices from leading UK insurance providers and enables cover comparison to ensure that motorists find the best overall deal that is right for them.”
