AUTO TRADER’S NEW RESEARCH SHOWS ONE IN FIVE USERS SPENDS OVER £120 A MONTH ONLINE
March 14th, 2008Auto Trader, the UK’s no 1 motoring website and magazine, has today released new research, which shows that almost 20% of their users spend over £120 each month, which corresponds with the total online population.* Nearly 30% of users spend up to £20 online each month, with a further 30% spending between £20 and £50 each month and nearly one quarter spending between £50 and £120. The research, conducted amongst over 5,000 UK motorists, shows that nearly three quarters are in full-time employment, earning an average of £20,000 - £30,000. Over 60% of users own their property, with nearly 70% living in a semi detached or detached home.
AutoTrader.co.uk users take at least one holiday abroad each year (28%), with 39% holidaying overseas twice a year or more. In fact, 43% have booked their holiday online within the past 12 months, with over 60% researching it online before they booked.
During the past 12 months, 55% of AutoTrader.co.uk users have brought electrical goods online, followed by:

- Holidays (43%)

- Books (37%)
- Motoring accessories (32%)
- IT equipment/computer games (30%)

Two thirds visit websites of high-street stores when buying online, followed by online auction sites (65%) and large independent websites such as Amazon (56%).
In an average month, AutoTrader.co.uk users spend between £20 and £50 on the following:

Auto Trader magazine and website reaches a combined audience of nearly 10 million motorists*. In January 2008, Auto Trader’s website, www.autotrader.co.uk, enjoyed over 8.5 million unique users*, who carried out over 77 million searches on new and used vehicles. This record growth in monthly average unique users is a 25% year on year increase and a 38% month on month increase**. Now in the top 50 most visited sites in the UK, Auto Trader is a route to market for one quarter of the UK online adult population, who each spends an average of 15 minutes on the site per visit - spending more time on AutoTrader.co.uk than they do on Facebook*. (*Source: Comscore November 2007).
Auto Trader is also the no.1 motoring website visited by women in the UK, with 1,634,000 unique female visitors per month - 34% more women than eBay Motors.
